The average girl or woman in detention and in prison has little education, is poor and has low employment prospects, says the International Federation of University Women (IFUW), based in Geneva, Switzerland, on the occasion of IFUW Day on June 1st. IFUW calls for increased programmes to train girls and women in skills and learning at all ages, including literacy classes for girl and women prisoners, in particular financial, health, human rights, information technology (IT) and language literacy.
