That GWI and NFAs initiate or support programmes aimed at increasing girls’ self esteem. Such programmes would address the societal attitude which results in a preference for sons rather than daughters, wherein girls are either covertly or subtly treated as second class citizens. Also to be considered are the demonstrated discriminatory practices in education which lessen educational opportunities for girls, as well as to excel.
