GWI Representatives to the United Nations

Our UN Representatives are very active and attend multiple sessions per year. Click here to access their reports.

 

Geneva

GWI UN Representatives in Geneva actively participate, hold special sessions, and report on the three Human Rights Councils, the Social Forum of the Human Rights Council, the Commission on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, International Labour Office (ILO), and many more UN Observance days and special sessions. GWI works closely with NGO coalitions, in particular with the NGO for Human Rights, Geneva and the Committee on the Status of Women. The team is active in many of the special working groups.

New York

GWI UN Representatives in New York actively participate, hold special sessions, and report on the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Committee on the Status of Women (CSW), the Commission on Social Development and UNICEF, High-Level Political Forum, United Nations General Assembly, among other session taking place at the UN in New York.

Paris  – UNESCO

In Paris, work is related to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). GWI is one of the few women’s NGOs with consultative status. Each representative has a specific area of responsibility: Adult Education, Literacy and Education for All; Higher Education in the 21st Century and Women, Science and Technology, Poverty and follow-up to the Habitat II Conference on Human Settlements.

Vienna

GWI UN Representatives in Vienna actively participate in, hold special side events, and report on the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and The Commission on Narcotic Drugs, in particular looking at issues related to education and women and the adolescent girl.
