Independent Members

Independent-MembersWhy become an independent member? Independent membership opens GWI’s international network to women graduates from countries where there is not yet a GWI affiliate and to women graduates who do not wish to join a national group.

The benefits of belonging to GWI are:

  • Identity – belonging to a respectable and respected international organisation which is recognised in international circles
  • Vision – having a large number of countries working towards the same vision and objectives, each in different ways
  • Community– belonging to an international network of peers
  • Access – to projects, fellowships, advocacy, information
  • Services – webinars, newsletters, personal responses etc
  • Visibility – GWI showcases members’ activity, lending strength to local activities

Subscription fees:

  • The annual subscription fee (based on calendar year January to December) is 100 Swiss francs and must be paid in January for the year.
  • There is a special rate of 50 Swiss francs for women residing in countries with a low per capita GNI. See the list of countries that qualify. Please note that this is based on country of residency and not country of origin.
  • Payment may be made only in Swiss francs or US dollars. GWI does not waive fees. Please note that refunds will not be issued, therefore please ensure that you pay the correct fee according to your country of residence.
  • Regardless of when you join, the fee will only be valid for the calendar year in which you join. You will automatically receive a subscription reminder in the January following your signing up.
  • Often national fees are the same or lower than the independent member fee. The single membership fee you would pay to the NFA would cover both your national and GWI membership. National members have the added benefit of contacts with graduate women at the local and national level, and you can participate in activities and meetings in your country of residence.

How to join:

If there is already an association or federation (NFA) in your country of residence, please contact them first to find out about the opportunities they provide at the national and local level. The single membership fee you would pay to the NFA would cover both your national and GWI membership. Often national fees are the same or lower than the independent member fee. As a national member you have the added benefit of contacts with graduate women at the local and national level and can participate in a range of activities and meetings in your country of residence.
